In an effort to foster a vibrant sense of community and celebrate cultural diversity at Lincoln University, we organized a potluck gathering with our university staff and students.

"The potluck has brought us a lovely opportunity to gather and share dishes of our cuisines with our friends."
A potluck is a social gathering in which participants contribute dishes of their own, sometimes from different cuisines. Cuisines are not merely a delightful sensation on the tongue; they are soulful stories of life, traditional values, and cultural heritages. Whereas the potluck serves as a bridge, bringing those intangible elements together in a social context and connecting the people.
“I’ve really enjoyed trying dishes from different foods and celebrating with my friends. I hope we can do this more often.”
In Vietnamese, we have a similar term called “nhậu,” which also refers to a collective of social activities including celebrating, enjoying food, and engaging in conversations. “Nhậu” also captures the essence of communal gatherings with friends, colleagues, and family.
Whether it was a potluck or “nhậu,” it was an enjoyable occasion for participants to not only try different cuisines and enjoy one another’s company, but also share their cultural heritage, celebrate diversity, and bond with others.
We hope next time you will join us to share your cultures and heritage and celebrate together at our future events.
